The Beijing Winter Paralympic Games are flying for Paralympics GB as they mash it up in the mountains above China’s capital city.

And it’s all on Channel 4: The Paralympic Broadcaster.

Day 2 – one for the history books!   Paralympics GB continued to shine in the mountains of Beijing on Day 2, with the second day bringing not one, but two reasons to be written into the history books!

First up on the list of spectacular moments from yesterday was 19-year-old Neil Simpson who topped the podium alongside his guide and brother, Andrew in the Men’s Super-G Vision Impaired event at their first ever Paralympic Winter Games.   Clocking 1:08.91 to finish nearly 0.5 seconds clear of the rest of the field, meant that they’ve earned the rights to say that they won Great Britain’s first ever male gold medal on snow at an Olympic or Paralympic Games.

To say the least, there were some incredible achievements today…

“I am just really thrilled, it’s not really sunk in yet!”

Neil Simpson, speaking about their outstanding achievement.

If the Simpson brothers weren’t enough, another name was written into the history books today – Menna Fitzpatrick.   This morning, Fitzpatrick and her guide Gary Smith took silver in the Women’s Super-G Vision Impaired. Adding her new gong to the four she won in Pyeong Chang in 2018, takes her total medal haul to five – meaning she’s now the most decorated Winter Paralympics GB athlete in history – some achievement!

A thrilled Fitzpatrick said:

“I am so happy to be the most decorated Paralympics GB Winter athlete. That is not what we came out to do today though, we went out to ski well, so to come out with a silver medal and a pretty amazing title as well means we are delighted”

Millie Knight and her guide Brett Wild were also back out on the slopes today, as was James Whitley. The duo of Knight and Wild just missed out on adding to yesterday’s bronze as they finished fourth in the Women’s Super-G Vision Impaired, while Whitley came 19th in the Men’s Standing Super-G.   And Shona Brownlee had an impressive Paralympic debut coming home 6th in the Women’s Super-G Sitting.    Up next tomorrow are the Super Combined events!
